Khei Horikoshi is the author and illustrator of the superhero manga series My Hero Academia (Japanese:, Hepburn: Boku no Hru Akademia). In Japanese, the phrase literally means “School for Heroes.” It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shnen Jump, a young adult manga magazine, since July 2014. Its chapters have also been gathered into a total of 36 tankbon volumes as of October 2022. Izuku Midoriya, a young guy with the desire to one day become a superhero but who was not born with a quirk, is the main character of the story. He lives in a world where quirks, or abilities, have become commonplace. When All Might, Japan’s greatest hero, sees Midoriya’s potential and bestows it onto him, he grants him his Quirk. Additionally, All Might helps Midoriya get accepted to a prestigious high school that focuses on training future superheroes.

As a result of its influence on several spin-off publications, including “My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions,” “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes,” and others, the manga has developed a strong media presence. Light novels, stage plays, and numerous other types of commerce and media, including a trading card game and numerous video games, have all been created from the series. The way that this tale is currently being conveyed is through an anime television series that Bones is doing. The second season, which ran from April to September 2017, the third season, which ran from April to September 2018, the fourth season, which ran from October 2019 to April 2020, the fifth season, which ran from March to September 2021, and the sixth season, which started airing in October 2022, came after the first season, which aired in Japan from April to June 2016. Furthermore, it has been turned into three animated films with the working titles My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, and My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission. It has also created eight original video animations (OVAs), each of which is coupled with a limited edition of a variety of the manga’s volumes. A live-action film is being developed and written by Legendary Entertainment.

The manga series was given permission to be published by Viz Media in North America, and the company’s first volume was made available in August 2015. The Weekly Shonen Jump magazine’s online edition also released it at the same time. Shueisha has begun publishing the series simultaneously in English and Japanese on the Manga Plus website. The rights to broadcast the anime shows domestically and internationally, as well as for retail sales, have been purchased by Crunchyroll. The English-dubbed version premiered on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block in May 2018.

My Hero Academia has had tremendous commercial success and has frequently been listed among the best-selling novels in The New York Times. One of the manga series with the greatest commercial success is the one with over 65 million copies in print as of January 2022. The sales of any spin-offs are not accounted for in this figure. The anime series has also garnered praise for its animation, soundtrack, pacing, and voice acting in both Japanese and English. Reviews have complimented the manga for its art, characters, story, combat scenes, and utilization of pop culture references to Western superhero comics. The response from the critics has also been favorable. Numerous awards, such as the Harvey Award for Best Manga and the Sugoi Japan Award, have been given to both the manga and the anime. Additionally, the anime and manga have each received two nominations for Anime of the Year at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

Synopsis
The events of My Hero Academia take place in a society where most people have developed what are known as “Quirks,” or abilities (, Kosei). It is thought that about 80% of people on the planet have at least one Quirk, and that these abilities often manifest in kids before the age of four. There are countless peculiarities, and unless two people are directly related to one another, it is very rare to discover two people that have the same power. There are several exceptions, such as when two people have the same parent. A small percentage of those who have a Quirk are granted the title of Hero because they assist the government in rescue missions and in the capture of criminals who abuse their powers and are more often known as Villains. Among the humans with quirk enhancements, there may be heroes. The rank of “Pro Heroes” (, Puro Hr), which is Japanese for “famous,” is also given to Heroes who do exceptionally well in their duties. Most heroes are more popular in proportion to their rank, with higher-ranking heroes enjoying greater public appeal. But it’s not unheard of for up-and-coming heroes to attain the same level of fame.
